WHO THE HELL ARE WE!?

...the story behind The Other Stories...

FADE TO: 2016.

Four writers huddle around a Skype call. They’re ambitious little hatchlings, kicking around ideas for stories they want to write and the ways in which they want to tell them. They giggle as they cook up a weekly short story podcast.

They call it… THE OTHER STORIES®.

It’s to be a melting pot of ideas, a kaleidoscope of spooks and surprises, a giant stick with which to prod the collective unconscious right where it least expects it.

…the four writers get to work.

They wrangle in narrators, clumsily edit the audio, add some music, the odd sound effect, and let the show loose upon the world.

The podcast took on a life of its own.

Within the first few months, it had 10,000 downloads. By the end of that year, it had grown to over 50,000.

As the audience grew so did the studio. The four conjured up an audio wizard and asked him to join… and thus the four became five.

Now as the show rolls into our 8th year, the studio…

  • Works with over 30 amazing collaborators from all across the world
  • Has published over 500 episodes of original fiction
  • With over 10 million downloads
  • A Film/TV Option
  • And won the Best Fiction Podcast award at ThisIsHorror
None of which would have been possible without the ongoing support of our listeners…

…and of course, the help of a cosmic hell-bird / managing editor called Kez (he smokes rollups and hates adverbs).

Luke Kondor

Luke Kondor is an award-winning filmmaker and writer living in Nottingham, UK. He started writing nonsense on his computer in his early teens and never looked back, and now he’s got really sore eyes.

Stuff he has made include KEITH — a short film made in 7 days with no ideas, no money, and no camera, which went on to win the best low-budget short film at the London Short Film Festival, THE OTHER STORIES — a weekly short story podcast with over ten million downloads and a Film/TV option, and EL MARVO — a crowdfunded comic book about a Luchador wrestler in a post-apocalyptic future.

Daniel Willcocks

Daniel Willcocks is an international bestselling author and award-winning  podcaster of dark fiction. He is a co-founder of iTunes-busting fiction podcast, ‘The Other Stories,’ as well as the host of the ‘Activated Authors’ podcast, in which he breaks down the strategies, tricks, and productivity habits of some of the best writers in the game today.

Residing in the UK, Dan’s work explores the catastrophic and the strange. His stories span the genres of horror, post-apocalyptia, sci-fi, and urban fantasy, and his work has seen him collaborating with some of the biggest names in the independent publishing community, including J. Karl Hughes

Karl Hughes does all things audio. He has been responsible for what you hear in the hugely successful “The Other Stories” podcast since the early days, making sure every monster sounds scary but doesn’t blow your ears off.

When he isn’t hunting down gun shot and stabbing SFX for podcasts he also composes podcast theme tunes – you can hear two of these on the “This Is Horror” and the “Great Writers Share” podcast.

He is also known for giving audio and podcast advice to new podcasters, helping them get setup quickly and answering the great question “What is a compressor?” Karl Hughes also produces music under the name Piregg and has released several EPs.

Ben Errington

With debut novel “Ten Tales of the Human Condition” and several short stories under his belt, Ben Errington’s fast-paced, chaotic, cinematic style has earned him many plaudits. He is the co-creator of the post-apocalyptic “El Marvo” and spends his spare time shouting into a microphone with metal band Koshiro.

Matt Butcher

Matthew C. Butcher is a novelist, writer for the chart-topping podcast ‘The Other Stories’ and soon to be breaking into the medium of graphic novels.
He has a keen interest in near future sci-fi and conspiracy and enjoys speculating at what point everything goes awry.

Despite the generally graphic and miserable themes in his writing, he promises he’s actually quite a pleasant person. Honest.
